The Institute of Osteopathy (iO) is the UK’s professional membership organisation for registered osteopaths. Founded in 1998, it was as a result of three osteopathic associations merging into one: the British Osteopathic Association, the Guild of Osteopaths and the Association of Great Britain.
The iO’s purpose is to unite, promote, develop and support the osteopathic profession, raise standards of public health and patient care and increase awareness and understanding of the benefits of osteopathy amongst the general public and fellow health professionals.
By working in partnership with members, various medical alliances, regulators, educators and the research community, the iO continuously strives to …
You may not realise that more than 30,000 people each and every day now visit an osteopath. They suffer from all kinds of strains, injuries and chronic conditions, including:
- Neck or back pain
- Arthritic pain
- Headaches and migraines
- Sports injuries
- Joint pain
- Muscular ailments
- Wrist pain
- Disc injuries
- Tennis elbow
Patients range in age, from unsettled babies who benefit from cranial osteopathy, to pregnant mothers; weekend sportspeople to professional athletes; busy professionals to those dealing with the effects of getting older.
Osteopathy is gentle, hands-on and incredibly effective in treating and managing a wide variety of conditions. Osteopaths are recognised by the NHS as competent, qualified healthcare professionals, providing you with total peace of mind.
Plus, as you don’t need a referral from your GP to see an osteopath, you won’t need to suffer long waiting lists to book an appointment. All you have to do is search the iO’s database of registered osteopaths to find a qualified professional in you area and get in touch.
